Hunter Valley MMA (HVMMA)
Established in 2023, Hunter Valley Mixed Martial Arts (HVMMA) - Previously Hunter Valley Pankration / MMA - was built to offer authentic, well-rounded martial arts training to the Hunter community. Our syllabus delivers a blend of striking and grappling drawing on arts including Muay Thai, Karate, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Sambo. We offer grades in two highly-regarded arts: Modern Pankration and Kinetic Fighting,
Led by experienced coaches with deep backgrounds in martial arts, competition, and combatives, HVMMA provides practical, high-impact training in a safe, disciplined, and supportive environment. Whether you're here for self-defence, fitness, or the love of the fight—we train with purpose.

Louis Burt
Head Coach
Dr Louis 'Estilo' Burt is the head coach for all of our classes here at Hunter Valley Pankration.
On top of holding a PhD in teaching - specialising in martial arts education and the inclusion of martial arts in school settings - Louis has been involved in martial arts since the year 2000. Begining with Taekwon-Do in his younger years, he has trained in a wide variety of combat sports over the last two decades, including Karate, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Sambo.
Louis has successfully in a range of martial arts including Sambo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate and Extreme Martial Arts at local, state and even national level. In 2019, he represented AUS in the 2nd Annual 'Les Scar Memorial Cup' held in Hawaii in 2019. Coming home with a gold medal in Pix Lax (Kick-boxing), and silver medal for Pankration. He has since been selected to represent Australia again in 2024, in the Pankration world championships in Romania.
